Bubble & Brew
Background.
Bubble & Brew was the result of a 5 month residency at The Edge as part of a program and exhibition run across the State Library of Queensland. After a successful pitch we started creating our first commercial game. It revolved around using barcodes to create in-game content, ultimately engaging with the real world and linking it to a digital experience.
Our team of two loved gathering and crafting in video games and finally got an opportunity to do so. Not only was it something we enjoyed but it seemed to be a growing trend. The gather aspect of a crafting game would work well with the idea of going out in the world and scanning barcodes.
The target audience ended up being parents to small children. The game was something to keep children occupied when tagging long to the grocery store - distracted by hundreds of barcodes.
The game was featured in the Family section of the App Store in early 2013. Due to other projects taking up our time we could no longer maintain it and took it offline.
Gameplay.
Use the game to scan barcodes to collect ingredients and craft powerful potions in order to aid the townspeople with their problems.
Love, revenge or just luck - what potion will you need to help the mysterious customer at the door.
